Understanding and connecting STEM and social justice to solve community problems is at the core of Our Future Is Science initiatives. In an March 6th, 2024 talk, Drs. Sydney Stanley and Jelonia “Loni” Rumph discuss infectious disease and public health disparities.
Dr. Sydney Stanley is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Boston Children’s Hospital. She recieved her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2023.
Dr. Jelonia Rumph is an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer at the CDC. She leads and contributes to epidemiologic investigations addressing public health crises, including outbreak investigations, environmental health risks, and disaster-related health assessments. Her work involves utilizing advanced data analysis and epidemiological surveillance techniques to provide critical insights and develop public health interventions.
The Community Talk Series is a platform to expose individuals to diverse careers, as well as information, insights, and perspectives on the intersections of STEM disciplines and social justice issues.
