Michael Eisner, Marin Alsop

For many, there is beauty in experiencing live music that is unmatched in any other of the performing arts. For established fans or beginners to the form, conductor Marin Alsop transported us with this behind-the-scenes open rehearsal of Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue with the Aspen Chamber Symphony. Named this year’s Harman/Eisner Artist in Residence at the Aspen Institute, Alsop, a trailblazing artist, invited us to watch her at work and spoke with Institute Trustee Michael Eisner afterwards about her journey to becoming the first woman to lead a major US orchestra.
