In 2023, Latinos accounted for 36% of all new U.S. businesses—nearly double their share of the U.S. population. Strengthening the business support ecosystem for Latino entrepreneurs could unlock an additional $1.2 trillion in revenue and create 5–6 million new jobs — underscoring the crucial role Latinos play in powering the American economy. This notable insight was shared at the 4th Annual Advancing Economic Mobility Summit, hosted by the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program with Knowledge Partner McKinsey & Company in New York City. A pivotal moment of the event was the launch of McKinsey’s report, The Economic State of Latinos in America: Building Up Small Businesses, which emphasized the vital role of small businesses in driving 44% of U.S. GDP.Organized under the theme Vision, Values, and Venture, the Summit convened nearly 200 cross-sector leaders to explore bold, actionable solutions for advancing Latino economic mobility—a crucial driver of America’s prosperity and global leadership. Expert-led discussions addressed topics impacting the Latino community, including scaling public-private partnerships, advancing diversity in investment, leveraging digital remittances for financial inclusion, catalyzing economic growth through education, and more. By bringing these influential voices together, we explored the systemic shifts required to drive cross-sector collaboration. The conversations highlighted how the cultural strengths and resilience of the Latino community position them as key players in the global competitive market.
